Obedient Plant, Physostegia virginiana is a perennial found in moist areas, grows up to 1.25m and has pink tube shaped flowers that attract bumblebees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Individual flowers are around 3cm long and grow in a dense spike around 10cm long at the top of the plant. Individual flowers can be pushed into position and remain in place giving it the name obedient plant. It can spread rapidly especially in moist clay soils, but has shallow roots that can be easily kept in check by pulling. A member of the mint family it is quite unpalatable to deer, rabbits and other mammal herbivores.
